The first joint that had been ’replaced’ was the hip, dating back to 1891. The type of hip prosthesis used nowadays is based on the the one developed by British surgeon Sir John Charnley in the 60th.<\/p>\n

The hip and knee joint are the most often replaced ones, followed by the shoulder and ankle. The surgeon can chose between different types of prosthesis for every single joint, depending on patient’s need and preference of the surgeon.<\/p>\n

Arthroscopy – Joint Key Hole Surgery<\/strong><\/p>\n

Key hole surgery has it’s name from the fact that the surgeon uses two or three small skin cuts, each the size of a key hole, during the surgery. Those cuts are used to introduce a camera and special instruments, which allow the surgeon to clean, remove and repair certain structures.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/article>\n

Key hole surgery at a joint is called arthroscopy, and has become a routine procedure used by experienced orthopaedic surgeon like\u00a0Dr. Alf Neuhaus.<\/a>\u00a0It is usually performed as a day case surgery, therefor not requiring over night hospital stay.<\/p>\n

In contrast to the rather ’big’ orthopaedic surgical procedures like joint replacement or back surgery, are hand surgery procedures rather ’small’, But therefor they require exact knowledge of the structures in the hand, and due to the small size of those structures surgeon often use magnifying clases.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n

Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Alf Neuhaus performs some of the minor procedures- carpal tunnel decompression, trigger finger release .. – in his out patient clinic Clinica SANDALF under local anaesthetics, using the special instruments available. As the hand, the foot is a small but complex organ. Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Alf Neuhaus<\/a> has many years experience in performing foot surgery. He would perform some of them under local anaesthetics using the facilities of Clinica SANDALF<\/a>, like hammer toe correction or bunion removal. Other surgeries, like hallux valgus correction or ankle prosthesis, <\/span>require in-patient stay for a couple of days or so.
